AOC have just started a conservation programme on two amazing Roman altars. The rare carved Roman altars, one dedicated to the Roman God Sol and the other to Mithras, are amongst the most important Roman finds ever to be made in Scotland, both for the quality of the carving and the importance of the inscriptions. The Mithraic altar is the first dedication to Mithras known from Scotland and the most northerly example to date.  You can follow the progress at
