The Roman Finds Group Annual Prize

RFG will award an annual prize to the value of £150 for the best contribution to the study of Roman material culture which meets the objectives of the RFG which are to: Promote the study, research, publication, teaching and conservation of the material culture of Roman Britain.

The award is open to RFG members only and will be made on an annual basis with submissions being made no later than February 1st. The prize winner will be announced on 1st March each year.

There is no specific application form, but the following details are essential:

  • Name, address and institution (where applicable) including email address;
  • Date of application;
  • Details of the project and how it meets the objectives of the Roman Finds Group;
  • Confirmation of RFG membership and year of joining (will be checked!). Applications must be from fully paid-up members of RFG and who have been a member of the group for a minimum of nine months before the application is made;
  • A short citation in support of the application from at least one referee (who does not need to be a member of RFG).

This prize is open to all RFG members, amateur, student, or professional. The application must reflect that undertaken by members not institutions, although joint projects may be considered as long as the members contribution is fully explained. Priority may be given to contributions which may lead to or be included in Lucerna or as a RFG datasheet;

The decision of the awards panel (Barbara Birley, Jörn Schuster and Ed Wood) will be final.
