Past, Present and Future of Roman Military Equipment
Mike Bishop and John Coulston

After producing a small, 76-page booklet on the subject of Roman military equipment in 1989, we expanded this into a much larger volume (256 pages), published by B. T. Batsford in 1993. This was followed by a second edition, enlarged and updated edition (321 pages), published by Oxbow Books in 2006. Now, 30 years after the first edition, we are expanding our scope to produce a completely revised and enhanced third edition. In this presentation, we will consider the origins of our book, the challenges it posed (and the pitfalls we did and did not dodge), how it evolved (and was used), and what we envisage for the future.
